#61: "7 Steps to Shifting Your Story"
#61: "7 Steps to Shifting Your Story"
In this Monday Mindset Episode we talk about the steps to shifting your story. Our stories have power and we decide how much power those stories have in our lives. It may seem obvious that we have to create a shift in the story, but it can feel overwhelming with where to even start. Our story has whatever meaning we give to it, if we want it to have different meaning, it is up to us to change it.
Today I share the 7 steps I have used regularly to shift my perspective in the story which ultimately shifts the power back to me. After 5 weeks of discovery calls with people on how to own, share and write their stories, these were the top points I put together after helping so many women with their stories.
In this episode we talk about:
1. The point of decision. Nothing happens without deciding that we want something differently in our lives. It is up to us to decide what we do or don’t want in our lives.
2. The power of learning to ask different questions. Stop asking the why, victim questions, and focus on the what am I going to do with this. Learn to ask how can I be more resilient? What am I missing? How can I ask for help? Changing our questions, changes how we think about our circumstances.
3. Being brave with our lives. As Brene Brown says, “Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we will ever do.” Being brave with our lives, helps us to build our courage and this happens whenever we get in to action. Action shifts everything!
4. Be willing to learn from others. We can learn from the journey of others, from their wins, their mistakes, how they overcame their struggles and it gives us ideas and hope for what we can do in our own lives and for what is possible.
5. Self-compassion is a must. Self compassion is learning to honour our journey, believing that we are enough as this gives us the courage to be our true authentic, imperfect and vulnerable selves.
6. Giving ourselves grace for doing the best that we could under the circumstances. If we can make the best decision with the information that we have at that time, that is honouring our process.
7. Start somewhere, literally. Journal, write, speak, get it out of your head, and help to shift the power of your story in your life. It is all possible!
