#83: “Get Your Butt in the Seats – The Power of Live Events”
In this Monday Mindset Episode, I talk about the power of live events! Over the last ten years, I have attended multiple live events, through personal development, work, business and professional development. I have gone to local events, weekend retreats, weeklong events and events on a plane all by myself. All of them have been transformational for different reasons. I choose which ones to attend based on where I am at in my life, who is speaking, who I want to learn from and who is on the path I want to continue to step in, follow and learn from. As I get ready to attend and speak at the Great Canadian Woman Summit in Gravenhurst, Ontario this upcoming weekend, I am beyond excited to share some of my takeaway as to why I think it is so important to attend live events.
In this episode we talk about:
1. Live events are a massive opportunity for personal growth, in all areas of our lives. Choose to attend events that are slightly or hugely outside of your comfort zone. These ones hold the largest opportunity for change and growth.
2. Events are a great way to break the stagnation in our lives. Events are a shift in energy, opportunities to push our comfort zone, and see what we are truly capable of. We tend to surprise ourselves when we step into these arenas!
3. This is the opportunity to learn something new. I encourage people to focus on 1-2 tips/strategies or tools that they can take and implement immediately in their lives. It is impossible to take in all of the information and we aren’t meant to. Instead focus on the points that resonate and speak to you the most. They are likely the points that are the easiest to implement.
4. This is an opportunity to meet your tribe of people. If you are feeling alone, isolated and not sure what step to take next, step into the rooms of the people you want to learn from, and you will find new people who are walking a similar path as you.
5. This is an opportunity to meet, collaborate and learn from others. As an early mentor of mine, Cathy Savage always said, “a group of women can have the exact same business, yet when they learn to truly bring themselves to the table it changes everything.” There is no room for competition, only collaboration and events are a great steppingstone to collaboration.
6. Plan ahead, look at the next 3 – 12 months and figure out what events you would like to attend, who you would like to learn from and budget accordingly. You can’t possibly attend everything, create a ranking system and decide what speaks to you the most, depending on where you are in your journey.
